Full Interview in Issue №9

WHAT WAS YOUR 1st INTRODUCTION TO THE BULLY WORLD? HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE BREED?

Cellblock
Around 2010, a friend Travis had brought over a dog named Cellblock. Cellblock was a Lowjack Remy-Martin son, a beautiful black tri colored bully with a large blocky head head, complete with the structure and build to match.

“This was the 1st American Bully I had laid eyes on. I was blown away by the size, bone and massive head on this beautiful dog. Of course I asked all the typical questions those new to the breed tend to ask “what do you feed him?”

“He’s not on muscle Milk or something?”

Travis explained that this was not a pit bull, but an American Bully. That it’s size didn’t come from his diet, but from genetics. Spielberg, like so many of us fell in love with the breed, right then and there. The look, the size, the temperament, the personalities on this breed of dog.. are so unique. Many of us have similar stories about the 1st time we laid eyes on an American Bully. Spielberg had to have his own, and later that same year he would own his first bully, Layla. Followed his second a male named Ali.

"One of the really cool parts about this job is getting to interview people that you have followed and learning there is so much more to them than their kennel, their dog or their brand."

In addition to finding early success as a rapper, traveling as a comedian, and working in radio.. he has traveled the world drumming, attending ceremonies and dancing, and as most of you know, has been very active in the bully community. Spielberg credits his mom for raising him to remain humble, to be grateful for what we have been given and the importance of forgiveness.

“YO SPEILBERG, YOU SHOOTING A MOVIE?”

Later that same year FW Spielberg packed up and set out to travel to his 1st show. Hitting the road, and driving 12 hours with the dogs.. his first time doing “some real dogman shit.” Spielberg drove from Long Island to South Carolina for his first show, which was hosted by the Remy Kennel Club.

Spielberg was blown away by the dogs. He couldn’t get enough shots and video of all the different bully’s in attendance. Fabian Chichester, the owner of Remy Martin and the RKC noticed FW Spielberg ducking, crouching, laying on the ground getting video of the dogs and thought it was funny. Fabian shouted out “yo Spielberg, what are you doing, shooting a movie?” The nickname stuck. For those of you that don’t know Fabian or the Legendary Remy Martin, Remyline was, around this time, a movement.

See The History of Remyline

So FW Spielberg is surrounded by the Remyline OG’s; Fabian Chichester, Ervin Moore, Chris Hodges and more. And they tell FW that they really like his female. They asked what his plans were for Layla, and Spielberg said the absolute worst thing you could possibly say in a Remyline circle “I’m thinking of using Dax.”

Needless to say that response didn’t go over too well. But, when the smoke cleared, Fabian pulled Spielberg aside and said the exact opposite of what he was expecting to hear. “Give me a call when that happens.”

One thing that I respect about Fabian, he has always kept it real with me.

About a week later Fabian called with Travis on three way. Fabian had mentioned doing a radio show.

He thought that Spielberg would be great for it, not knowing at the time that Speilberg had experience in radio. FW Spielberg started in music, he actually had the 1st Independent label to have an All-Access Pass to the Billboard Awards. He toured with Roc-A-Fella artists Cam’ron, Dipset and even had Jay-Z headline a couple of his shows. Spielberg toured toured Europe and performed with the Beastie Boys, Rage against the Machine and Craig David.

In 1998, while promoting his album Spielberg began to tour different radio stations. One of the stops was Power 99 in Philadelphia. As always, Spielberg’s larger than life personality and on air presence left a lasting impression. Spielberg coined the phrase “Oh oh ohhhh” which is still used by the Hot Boyz to this day. If you’ve listened to Power 99 and heard audio of the catchphrase.. yep that’s your boy Spielberg!

Spielberg then went from music to comedy working at the Comix Comedy Club along side Drew Frasier, TK Kirkland, Smokey from Friday, RIP Michael's, Nikki Carr and Michael Blackson and was even was even scheduled to do a tour with Charlie Murphy and EarthQuake!
WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENT WITH THE BREED ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

“The day I brought my daughters to New Jersey with me and Champed out my boy Daxwell. To Produce a dog, and earn his Champion title with my two daughters watching was the best day ever. With comedy, rap.. I never finished. My daughters were able to see that their dad finished something. That I saw my goal to completion. My kids have watched me struggle.”

They had seen their dad rapping, living in luxury, and not long after they had seen their dad living in a 12 X 24 with no running water. Scrubbing toilets for work. So for them to see Daxwell as a pup, the training we did in the living room, the work that was put in.. For them to see that their dad put his mind to something and reach his goal, and to have them there supporting me.. was my best day ever.

YOU’VE DEVELOPED A LOYAL FOLLOWING, (OURSELVES INCLUDED) ON YOUR “LIVE” VIDEOS.. THEY’RE GREAT TO WATCH AND WE TUNE IN EVERY CHANCE WE GET.. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO START GOING LIVE?

“The moment I went live for the 1st time and people accepted me for just being me.. was amazing. It was what I had been searching for. It was wholesome. For the first time, I was being myself. It wasn’t an act.

With rap or comedy you write lyrics or skits, and you put on a persona. It’s not genuine, or authentic. I had found what I was searching for. I mess up all the time, that’s what makes me, me. I bomb every day, we all do. I bomb with life, my wife, kids. Nobody wins everyday, but I come back.. I don’t stay down”

WHAT ISSUES DO WE FACE AS A COMMUNITY?

“Too many people living for the book (Facebook) How many times do you meet someone, and all you know is their photo, their kennel name, or their dog? We have so many great people in the bully community, if we would allow people to get to know us, the real us (behind the photo, kennel name, or dogs) we would be much better off.

We are missing the real connection, because we are living in a fantasy world. Facebook is like the news, some people mention the highs, others their lows, and we all sit back and judge, because we are not living life. Get out and meet people, and enjoy time with them, your family, and your dogs.
